Medical Research Working Group |

Doctors, nurses, emergency medical personnel, and others in the health field treat drug endangered children very day. It is essential that they be provided sufficient information about drug endangered children and the environments in which they are found so that they may properly care for and treat child victims. There is an urgent need to know more about the long term physical and psychological effects on children who unwittingly ingest dangerous drugs, who are exposed to drug manufacturing environments which contain hazardous and toxic chemicals, who are exposed to violent, inappropriate and abusive “caregivers,” or who are neglected by “caregivers” impaired by drug use or addiction. The National Alliance for Drug Endangered Children encourages medical and scientific research to better assess the dangers to children and to better define appropriate treatment. We also encourage collaboration among and sharing of data between researchers so that research results benefiting drug endangered children can be most efficiently publicized. To that end, in 2003 we formed a Medical and Scientific Research Working Group, which meets on a regular basis to coordinate, share and prioritize needed medical and scientific research concerning drug endangered children and related topics. If you are a medical professional or scientist or research professional and wish to participate in this working group, please send an e-mail listing contact information and your area of interest to National.DEC@usdoj.gov. |
